Obituary

Warren "Skip" Douglas Sykes, 54, of Kingsville passed away on May 28, 2021, in Corpus Christi, TX.

Skip was born in Corpus Christi, TX on May 1, 1968.

Skip had a passion for country music and singing, supporting local constables, and was involved with community church activities as a member of St. Martin Catholic Church.

Skip is preceded in death by his father Warren Sykes, and stepfather, Jesus Amaya, Sr.

Skip is survived by his mother, Alice Amaya of Kingsville, TX; his sister Amelia Stewart of Meridian, MS; his brother Mark (Laura) Suban of Dumfries, VA; his nieces Lisa Stewart and Shannon Suban and nephews Samuel Stewart and Shayne Suban. Skip is also survived by his great-nephew, Micheal, and great-niece, Alexis.

Skip had a compassionate spirit and dedicated his life to supporting those he loved. He was a prayer warrior, devout Christian, poet, and friend to all who knew him. He loved to sing, especially old-school country/western songs and would often spontaneously serenade his mother and friends with George Strait or "You Are My Sunshine." He loved to cook and made chicken fried steak better than any restaurant in town.
His love for our Lord and especially his mother, Alice Amaya, will never be forgotten. Skip also loved his nieces and nephews and relished spending time with them. The only time he volunteered for a picture was when they were in it with him.
Skip will be tremendously missed by those who loved him and will undoubtedly be greeted at the gates of heaven by Jesus who will say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
