Sister Maxie Cruz, MDPVM, 86, a beloved resident of Kingsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024, in Kingsville, Texas. Born on March 31, 1938, in Taft to Candido and Maria Cruz, she led a life of deep devotion and service, touching countless lives with her faith and compassion.
Sister Maxie was a dedicated educator, having served as both a principal and teacher, guiding generations of students with her wisdom and kindness. She was also a local businesswoman, embodying a spirit of resilience and entrepreneurship. Her greatest passion, however, was her calling as a Catholic nun, and her unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life.
As a lifelong member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, Sister Maxie was known for her profound commitment to her community. She was the founder of Mother Julia's Navarrete, a testament to her leadership and vision for the future. Her ministry extended far beyond her hometown, as she served as a missionary in Mexico, Texas, Washington, and New Jersey. Locally, her compassionate work touched the lives of many in McAllen, Robstown, and Kingsville.
Sister Maxie was the youngest of a large and loving family, and she now rejoins her eleven brothers and four sisters who preceded her in death. She leaves behind the sisters of the Missionary Daughters of the Most Pure Virgin Mary, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who cherish her memory and the legacy of love she left behind.
Her family and religious community will celebrate her life with visitation on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home. A Holy Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 7:00 p.m St. Martin's Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church, officiated by Father Alfredo Villarreal. Burial will take place at Chamberlain Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
Sister Maxie's life was a testament to faith, love, and service. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of compassion will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
