Obituary

San Juanita "Janie" Rosas Barrera, 75, of Kingsville, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Janie Rosas Barrera was born June 2, 1948, to Mamerto and Juanita Rosas on the King Ranch , Janie was the youngest daughter of 9 children.

Janie, a devout Christian and dedicated mother, found happiness in studying the bible and attending service at Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed the sound of mariachi music as it reminded her of her youth. Her home was lively with the playful presence of her chihuahuas, who were welcomed companions. Janie's collection of movies offered her an escape, allowing her to unwind and engage with captivating stories.

Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, sharing laughter and creating cherished memories of outings to the lake, beach, or aquarium. Janie's life was a beautiful blend of love, music, and treasured moments that she held close to her heart. Tears of joy and sadness mixed to make up the very core of what life is all about.

Janie will be warmly recalled as a strong individual who instilled in her children the significance of strength, courage, and honoring the bond between brothers as family was of the upmost importance. She taught her sons to always stand for what you believe in and be men of conviction, whatever it may be. Firm discipline delivered with a loving hand made the men that are proud to call her mom. A debt we can never repay. May you rest at peace till we meet again.

Janie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emmett Barrera, Sr.

She is survived by her six devoted sons: Joseph (Danny) Gonzales of Kingsville, Angel (Stephanie) Gonzales of Kingsville, B. Scott Nicolas of Kingsville, Donovan (Samantha) Pedraza of Kingsville, Derrick (Kathy) Pedraza of Kingsville, and Dahzi (Monica) Rosas of Kingsville. Janie's legacy also lives on through her two sisters, Maria Perez of Kingsville, and Gloria Maldonado; her twelve adoring grandchildren: Aaron, Avery, Alexah, Lilliana, Noah, Scott, Silas, Emmett, Arlo, Dorian, Jude, and Annabelle; as well as her cherished great-granddaughter, Delylah. She will be fondly remembered by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
