Refugio Vela, 65, of Ricardo, TX passed away May 1, 2023, in Corpus Christi, TX.
He was born on December 5, 1957, in Riviera, Texas to Pablo and Rosa G. Vela.
Cuco, as many knew him, spent a considerable number of years as a farmer. Chances are you may have come across him working in the local fields at some point. Just a brief interaction with him would reveal a heart of gold. He took great pride in everything he did, and his actions were guided by unwavering principles. Cuco was always willing to help anyone who needed it if there was anything he could do without hesitation. In essence, he was a truly admirable individual.
He is preceded in death by two sisters, Carmen Vela, and Dolores Vela; one brother, Ruben Vela.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Connie L. Vela; two daughters, Shannon Herren and Maria Vela; three sons, Jason Herren, Zachary McCullough, and Tyler Vela; three sisters, Vicky Figueroa, Mary Clifford, and Ninfa Etheridge; five brothers, Raul Vela, Augustine Vela, Pablo Vela Jr., George Vela, and Joey Vela; four grandchildren, Chance, Maddison, Annabelle, and Annora; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
