Ofelia Cortez Rodriguez, 95, of Kingsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on January 21, 1931, in Kingsville, Texas to Manuel and Ramona Cortez.
Ofelia grew up in Kingsville and attended school there before marrying Jose R. Rodriguez. They lived and worked on the King Ranch raising their children before relocating to the Houston area in the 1970's.
In the late 1990's, Ofelia returned to her hometown of Kingsville, where she became an active member of the VIP/ "La Paloma" Adult Day Care – where she treasured the friendships she made, the kindness of the staff, and, of course, her favorite game: Bingo.
Ofelia was the heart of her family – a devoted wife and mother, a proud grandmother, and a cherished great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her life was marked by sacrifice, strength, laughter, and unconditional love. She will be remembered for her resilience, her quick wit, and her unwavering love for the Astros Baseball Team.
She is survived by her children: Ofelia Rodriguez, Irene Mandujano (Jose), Romeo Rodriguez, and Alma Rodriguez; her 14 grandchildren: Paula Mata, Rosario Anguiano, Sylvia A. Guevara, Jose Rodriguez, Jr., Adriana R. Afdahl, Eliza R. Powell, Jaime David Rodriguez, Amadeo Joel Rodriguez, David Lee Lunsford, Aaron Mandujano, Noe Mandujano, Adan Garza, Anel Piña and Robyn Espinosa; 32 great-grandchildren, and 34 great-great-grandchildren.
She was reunited in heaven with her parents, Manuel and Ramona Cortez, her brothers, Hernan Cortez and Alfredo Cortez, her sister Eva Cortez Arredondo, husband, Jose R. Rodriguez, sons, Jose Guadalupe Rodriguez, Amadeo Cortez Rodriguez and Jose Rodriguez, grandson, Frank Anguiano and granddaughter, Colette Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1102 E. Kleberg Avenue, Kingsville, Texas, with Father Paulson officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery, 835 W. Caesar Avenue, Kingsville, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Nicandro Arguello, Jose Espinoza, Adan Garza, David Lee Lunsford, Aaron Mandujano, Noe Mandujano, Amadeo Joel Rodriguez, and Jaime David Rodriguez.
