Ninfa V. Barrera, 89, of Kingsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Kingsville.
She was born on August 5, 1936, in Mercedes to Guadalupe and Lucinda Villanueva. Ninfa lived a life rooted in faith, devotion to family, and service to others. She retired after more than 30 years as a child caregiver with First Baptist Church, where she lovingly cared for children and made a lasting impact on countless families. Her nurturing spirit and gentle heart defined both her work and her home life.
Ninfa had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit that brought joy to everyone around her. She loved music and especially enjoyed dancing to her favorite corridos, never missing a chance to move to a familiar tune. She was known for her delicious cooking. Her one-of-a-kind tamales became a cherished family tradition. She took great pride in keeping everything neat and tidy, always making sure her home was in perfect order — a reflection of her caring nature and attention to detail.
A faithful member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, Ninfa's faith guided her throughout her life. She found strength in prayer, joy in fellowship, and comfort in her church community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aniseto Barrera; her sisters, Lidia Hernandez, Guadalupe Villanueva, and Irma Cortez; and her brothers, Tito Villanueva and Daniel Villanueva.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Sylvia A. (Israel) Morales of Riviera; her sons, Alberto Barrera of Kingsville and Gabino Barrera of Nebraska; and her brothers Rogelio Villanueva of Lubbock, Ernesto Villanueva of Mercedes, Manuel Villanueva of Mercedes, and Ruben Villanueva of Mercedes. She also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren—Cindy, Dennise, Rogelio, Devon, Ryan, Chris, and Jacob—fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who will forever treasure her love and guidance.
