Maria Elma Velasquez, 78, of Kingsville, Texas passed away on June 14, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was born on December 25, 1946, in Kingsville, Texas to Maximo and Inez Martinez.
She was a devoted and compassionate soul, a retired nurse whose caring nature extended far beyond her years of service. As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was the heart of her family—steadfast, nurturing, and always there with open arms and a warm meal. Her home was a sanctuary of comfort, laughter, and the kind of cooking that brought everyone to the table and kept them coming back.
Her greatest joy was her family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each one holding a special place in her heart. Her love was generous and unwavering, a constant presence in the lives she touched.
She shared an unbreakable bond with her beloved cousin, Pitsy Gonzalez. More than just family, they were lifelong companions—inseparable in spirit and in life. They leaned on each other through every season, offering love, laughter, and mutual care that endured through the years.
She also found peace and joy near the water. Whether watching the waves or spending time outdoors, the water was where she felt most free and at ease. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melquiades Velasquez Jr.; and one son, Luis Orlando Velasquez.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa (Steve) Pautzke of Kingsville; two sons, Romeo Raul (Lebby) Velasquez of Kingsville and Miguel Edwardo Velasquez of Kingsville; seven grandchildren, Jenna, Josh, Zac, Alyssa, Jace, Tatiana, and Alex; eighteen great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her beloved fur baby Honey Lou.
