Maria De Los Angeles Vera Flores, 84, a beloved matriarch and pillar of the Kingsville, Texas community, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024, in her hometown. Born on September 24, 1939, in Kingsville, Texas, Maria's life was a testament to faith, education, and service.
Maria was the cherished daughter of Fortunato and Ofelia G. Vera. She dedicated her life to education, earning her master's degree from Texas A & I University. As a respected teacher and administrator, she made a lasting impact on countless students. Her tenure as the school principal at St. Anthony Catholic School in Robstown was marked by her unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering a loving, inclusive school environment.
A devout Catholic, Maria was an active member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Her faith was her guiding light, reflected in her numerous roles within the church community. She served with devotion as a member of The Catholic Daughters of America, a Eucharistic minister, usher, lector, parish council secretary, and was deeply involved in the rosary ministry. Maria's dedication to her faith and her church family was inspirational to all who knew her.
Maria's legacy is enriched by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Deacon Arturo Flores, whose memory she cherished deeply.
She leaves behind a family who will forever honor her memory: her three daughters, Lina (Peter) Salinas of Kingsville, Tina Flores (Juan Ramirez) of Kingsville, and Dina (Mark) Mejorado of Houston; her son, Arturo "Bo" Flores Jr. (Brenda) of Kingsville; five adoring grandchildren, Joshua, Marcel, Alejandra, Jon Michael, and Mark Anthony; her precious great-granddaughter, Natalia; her brother, Fortunato (Minnie) Vera of Pflugerville; and her sister, Rosie (Gilbert) Anzaldua of San Diego, California. Maria was also a beloved aunt and cousin to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Maria's life and legacy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church, officiated by Father Alfredo Villarreal. Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
