Marcelino Sanchez, 91, a resident of Bishop, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at his home in Bishop.
Born on October 7, 1933, in Goliad, Texas, to the late Daniel and Herlinda Costilla Sanchez, Marcelino lived a life defined by hard work, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Marcelino was a retired farm laborer, a trade where his tireless dedication earned him great respect. After retirement, he continued to serve his community as a caretaker for Bishop Cemetery, a role he held with pride and diligence. A true jack-of-all-trades, Marcelino could be found building, repairing, or lending his skilled hands to any task. Whether working on automobiles or crafting with care, he stayed busy from sunrise to sunset, embodying a work ethic that inspired all who knew him.
Generous and selfless, Marcelino was always willing to lend a helping hand, never hesitating to support others with kindness and humility. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom he showed boundless love and affection.
Marcelino is preceded in death by his three sisters, Dolores, Francisca, and Rosa; and two brothers, Felipe and Juan.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, cherished by his wife of 62 years, Higinia M. Sanchez of Bishop; his three daughters, Diana Guzman of San Antonio, Linda (Claudio) Ortiz of Brownsville, and Ana Cavazos of Bishop; his son, Daniel Sanchez of Bishop; and his four siblings, Andrea Shaw, Alfredo Sanchez, Narciso Sanchez, and Lupe Sanchez, all of Goliad, Texas. He is lovingly remembered by his eight grandchildren—Roxanne, Ruby, Jesse, Sarah, Chanel, Crystal, Claudio IV, and Tommy Jr.—as well as twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who were all touched by his kindness and wisdom.
Marcelino's life was a testament to the values of hard work, generosity, and love for family. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 11:00 a.m.
