Herbert James Wells, aka “King Herb,” age 85, of Kingsville, Texas, passed away on August 8, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was born on October 27, 1942, in Rosenberg, Texas, to Unice and Emma Wells.
Unice Wells Sr. and Emma Wells moved to Kingsville, Texas, where he worked for the railroad until his untimely death. Emma was a devoted housewife and loved her children and grandchildren.
Herbert was a popular musician back in his younger days. He traveled throughout the surrounding area and the Valley. He was known by his nickname, “King Herb.”

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margie Washington.
Survivors include one son, Maurice D. Addison; two grandchildren, Joyclynn and Gwendyon; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Unice Wells Jr.; one sister, Mildred Calhoun; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home, with Pastor Lester Reese officiating. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
