Elisa Leal Garza, 90, of Bishop, Texas, peacefully entered eternal rest on June 10, 2026, surrounded by her family she cherished throughout her life.
Born on December 19, 1935, in Bishop, Texas, to Antonio and Eloisa Leal, Elisa was a woman whose life was defined by love, faith, dedication, and service to others. As a florist for many years, she brought beauty and comfort to countless families throughout Bishop and the surrounding communities. Her creativity, gentle spirit, and attention to every detail made her work a reflection of the kindness she carried in her heart.
A devoted member of St. James Catholic Church, Elisa's faith was the foundation of her life.
Elisa shared a remarkable 69 years of marriage with the love of her life, Eliberto Garza. Together, they built a family rooted in love, faith, and strong values that will continue to endure for generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Victor Hernandez, Baby Rafael Leal, and Julian Leal; and her sisters, Emma L. Paree, Longina L. Herrera, Maria Elena Treviño, Rachel Lugo, and Evangelina Guillen.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Eliberto Garza; her children, Eliberto Garza Jr., Irma (Arnulfo) Garza, and Yvonne Garza Mitchell; her treasured grandchildren, Page, Julie, Andrew, Phillip, and Daniel; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Frank Torres, Oscar (Eva) Torres, Alfredo (Esther) Torres, and Juan (Elia) Torres; her sisters, Maria (Valdemar) Pruneda, Grace Ramos, and Lupita (Ruben) Rodriguez; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Elisa's greatest legacy is the love she shared so freely. She taught her family the importance of faith, compassion, hard work, and devotion to one another. Elisa expressed her love through both her actions and her unwavering concern for others. She was known for making and sharing her delicious menudo and tamales with family and friends, and she never missed an opportunity to bring pan de polvo to share with those she loved. For Elisa, food was more than a meal—it was a way of bringing people together and showing how much she cared.
Even during her most difficult and sickest days, Elisa remained focused on others rather than herself. She would call family and friends, near and far, to check on them, ask how they were doing, and offer words of encouragement and love. Her kindness, generosity, and selflessness never wavered, even in the face of her own struggles.
Before her passing, Elisa asked her daughters to continue the traditions she held so dear. Through every pot of menudo, every batch of tamales, every shared piece of pan de polvo, and every act of caring for others, her legacy of love, compassion, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
