Consuelo "Chelo" Trevino-Espino passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family and friends. She was born to Gabriel and Irene Trevino on July 23, 1944, in Kingsville, Texas.

Chelo pursued her passion for learning at Texas A&M University Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I University) and later earned a master's degree in counseling from the University of Houston. She dedicated her career to education, worked with Child Protective Services, and actively served as a counselor. As a committed member of The Catholic Daughters of America, she lived a life filled with faith, service, and compassion.

Chelo worked as a primary/secondary classroom teacher, and school counselor for many districts throughout Texas. She was also a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and advocated for the TRS Retirement Plan.

Chelo was the proud owner and operator of Chelo's Flower Shop for several years. She also volunteered as a Kleberg County election worker.

Chelo is survived by her devoted husband, Salvador Espino; her sons, Noel (Joanna) De La Rosa and Norman (Reyna) De La Rosa; her grandchildren, Francisco Robles III, Dylan De La Rosa, and Gabriel Zack De La Rosa; her sisters, Gloria (Pete) Villarreal and Esther (Francisco †) Perez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel and Irene Trevino; her sister, Mary Lou Garza; her brother, Luis Trevino; and her grandson, Norman Neil De La Rosa II.

After marrying Salvador, Chelo moved to Riviera, Texas, where she embraced her many passions. She transformed a barn into her pottery studio, where she created beautiful pieces. Chelo cultivated a vibrant garden, fished from her dock and boat, and cared for her small animal herds. She welcomed family and friends into her home with warmth, laughter, and the irresistible aroma of her famous seafood chowder.

Chelo's remarkable sense of humor and contagious laugh brightened every room. Her kindness, warmth, and genuine care for others touched countless lives. Those who knew her deeply feel her absence, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home, with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Father Alfredo Villarreal will officiate at the funeral mass on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery.
