Asencio C. Barrera Jr., 80, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, tío, amigo, and compadre to so many. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsville, Texas. He entered Heaven on August 28, 2026.

Born in Kingsville on March 17, 1946, to Asencio P. Barrera Sr. and Juliana C. Barrera, Chencho, as he was known to many, was the youngest in a household of 18 brothers, sisters, nieces, and a nephew with whom he was raised. With a heart rooted in faith, prayer, and family, he lived his life to the fullest, loving and serving his family and friends well. He loved cooking, barbecuing, and making everyone laugh. So many will miss his delicious breakfast tacos. He was a food truck before its time.

He retired from working in industrial plants, where he was known as an ambitious and hardworking man. Earlier in his life, he worked as a repairman for the Whirlpool and TV Center. There wasn’t anything he could not fix.

Asencio was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, where he also faithfully served. He was devoted to prayer and strong in his faith.

He loved camping and vacationing with family and friends, as well as enjoying a good meal out, where he always seemed to know someone. His sense of humor and quick wit will be deeply missed. He could always make a quick joke and bring laughter to the room. Above all, his constant care and prayers for his family will be missed.

Asencio was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Angelica; his parents; and many of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his three daughters, Glenda Cuellar (William) of San Antonio, Annette Bridges (Justin) of Fort Worth, and Amy Alarcon (Ceasar) of Fort Worth; eight adored grandchildren, Brandon and Clarissa, Cory, Ryan, Andi, and Bryn, and Chelsea and Ceasar “CJ” Jr.; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Amelia Utley, Sulema Gonzalez, Esther Bernal, and Yolanda Vasquez; and numerous nephews, nieces, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will remember him with affection and admiration.Asencio’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on through all who knew and loved him. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church with Father Alfredo Villarreal officiating. Interment will be held at Chamberlain Cemetery.
