Arturo Trevino Jr., 78, of Kingsville, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, with his family by his side. He was born March 7, 1946, in Alice, Texas, to Arturo Sr. and Dolores V. (Nee' Beral) Trevino.
Arturo spent his formative years in the Alice/Kingsville area, often with friends and close cousins. In Kingsville, he met his future wife, Antonia Nunez. Arturo and Antonia married in Garden City, Kansas, on June 2nd, 1963, and ultimately settled in Ulysses, Kansas, to start a family. In February 1969, they welcomed their first child, Penny.
After Penny joined the Trevino household, Arturo and Antonia became actively involved with the Kansas Health and Human Services Foster Care Program, which provides loving and compassionate care for at-risk children.
Realizing his passion for music, Arturo became a self-taught lead drummer for the Country and Western band The Fugitives, which played in the Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma tri-state areas. When not playing with his band, Arturo could often be found repairing and refurbishing inoperable vehicles for family and friends.
"Shorty," as Arturo was affectionately called, worked in various positions at the Hickock Plant of the Columbian Chemical Company for most of his adult life, retiring in 2005 after 32 years of service. Upon retirement, he moved his family back to Texas and established the family home in Kingsville.
Arturo was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Raul, Ruben, and Johnny, and sister Lydia Rios. He is survived by his wife Antonia of the family home; his daughters Penny (Anthony) Gallegos of San Antonio, Texas; Rosa (Marlin) Smith of Dodge City, Kansas; sister Rosa Danford and Aunt Maria Hinojosa, both of Alice, Texas. Arturo was also a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.
