Arcelia "Shelly" Mendietta Munoz, age 73, went to be with our Lord on October 1, 2013, in Kingsville, Texas.
Born May 22, 1940, on the King Ranch to Seferino and Victoria Mendietta, Arcelia worked as a dental assistant for 33 years. As a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish for over 40 years, Arcelia served on several committees. She was the Rite of Baptism coordinator for four years, a Eucharistic Minister for thirty years, a Celebration Committee member for twelve years, CCD Teacher and Volunteer for thirty-eight years, and a church lector for twenty years. Arcelia also provided the Holy Eucharist to those unable to attend mass. Arcelia's love for children and the importance of religious education in her life inspired her to establish a breakfast program for all the children attending religious education at Our Lady of Good Council on Sunday mornings. Arcelia also helped to initiate the A.C.T.S. retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Gertrude's Catholic Church. She provided Spiritual Formation through the A.C.T.S. Corp for two years. She spent four years as a volunteer at Christus Spohn Kleberg and two years as a volunteer at Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include her daughters, Norma Munoz-Davila and Kristina Munoz-(Jacob) Rubio of Kingsville, Texas, grandchildren Elizabeth (William) Stokes, Jacob and Joshua Davila, Tristian and Adriel Jimenez, great grandchildren Nicholas, Tyler and Sophia Stokes all of Kingsville, Texas. Siblings, Arnoldo Mendietta of Alice, Texas, Alfredo (Hilda) Mendietta, Alicia Mendietta Castro all of Kingsville, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. Arcelia was preceded in death by her husband, Nazario Munoz, Jr, parents Seferino and Victoria Mendietta and brother Armando Mendietta.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 4, 2013, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, followed by burial at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas.
