Octavio Xavier Alvarez

Octavio Xavier Alvarez, 77, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away on July 20, 2022, in Kingsville, Texas. He was born on July 25, 1944, in Kingsville, TX to Octavio and Eufemia Alvarez. Octavio Xavier (Sonny) Alvarez graduated from Henrietta M. King High School and University of North Texas, B.A. 1967. He taught Spanish, French, and English at M.B. Smiley H.S. in Houston, Tx. Sonny served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam-Era as an Ed. Specialist. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Sonny excelled as a Marketing Representative for IBM in the Corpus Christi branch in various marketing positions. He was recognized as the Regional Copier Specialist of the Year. Sonny was a Small Business Owner of TyERA, a vendor of educational literature representing various publisher across the country. He was active in community functions and organizations. He helped organize the Kleberg Co. Trail Riders and the San Fernando Wranglers & Co. Sonny served on the Kingsville Planning and Zooming Commission and Texas Workforce Commission. He was a current board member of the Kleberg County Public Library. He was a life member of the Knight of Columbus, Council #2623, St. Martin’s Catholic Church, and St. Martin of Tours Men’s Club. He is preceded in death by one brother, Ivan Alvarez. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Maria H. Alvarez of Kingsville; one daughter, Elis Alvarez Mendiondo of Kingsville; three sons, Eric Xavier (Carola) Alvarez of Arlington, Omar Xavier Alvarez of Kingsville, and Justin David Alvarez of Kingsville; one sister, Judith Alvarez Hall of Jacksonville, Texas; six grandchildren, Sean, Alexa, Ricardo, Cristian, Nicolas, and Kalel; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 07-27-2022 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, 07-27-2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church with Father Alfredo Villarreal officiating. Burial will follow on Thursday, 07-28-2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery. Under the direction of Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home.
